Found this 2 lp set at HPB Today, cat # STS15366/7, issued 1973. Would this set be a reissue of the 1959 recording? I assume it is. I like very much. Thanks,
Jim

London CS 2301
I have a few other Bach Brandenberg Concerto box sets. But Munchinger and the SCO is my favorite.
Example: Mariner (first version) with St. Martin in the Fields. (Philips 6700 045) displays absolute virtuosity with precision. Who could doubt its correctness.
Munchinger/SCO delivers virtuosity with a warm recording that has flair and energy.
I also like the Munchinger/SCO Vivaldi 4 seasons very much as well.
fwiw dept. My first copy of CS2301 was a later repress. It became my favorite straight away. Knowing this, and when I saw the above pictured London Blue Back copy available on ebay...I bought it without delay. and the price wasn't very high. Well worth any effort to get.

There are two sites containing huge information about vinyl records, eBay and discogs. So I did a search and here's the result. Your 15366-7 is the same performance of 5BB130-31, from 1972.
STS15366-7 page in discogs
eBay's 1972 Decca 5BB130-31
So, clearly, the STS15366-7 is from the 1972 performance/recording. I like it very much & am curious now to hear & compare to the 1959.

Per Robert Moon's and Michael Gray's book "Full Frequency Stereophonic Sound," the Munchinger Brandenburgs were issued originally over 3 LPs: London CS 6071-6073 and Decca SXL 2125-2127. This book also indicates which London STS issues correspond to those records. With your London STS 15366 indicated as containing the same recordings as on one of those original albums. Hope that helps.

It should have a copyright date for the original recordings on it somewhere. That would confirm the question for sure. The most reliable sources that I know say that the Stereo Treasury set was sourced from London CS 6807-8, issued 1973.

...the 1959 sessions apparently produced SXL2125-7, which were good stereo recordings. I don't see why they would re-record such a small-selling record when they had a good recording with the same artists already. It's not like Munchinger had gone HIP.
I'd agree with vinyl phanatic, he might think that he's got a better group. One eBay seller posted a sheet containing the list of soloists.
I can only guess that when they issued the Stereo Treasury set in 1977, they used the recording from 1972, since it was the more recent recording. ALC777 is correct, there was no Stereo Treasury issue of the 1958 recordings (which were issued in 1959). It would be interesting to compare the two recordings. They were 14 years apart, so it is entirely possible that Munchinger might have had different ideas, or perhaps thought that the group had gotten better. As far as being a good seller, the 1959 issue stayed in the London catalogue for a long time, at least up into the 70's, and it's not particularly hard to find, so it must have sold pretty well.

Will try to find the 1959 to compare to the 1972 recording, which I like very much. Appreciate the clarification.
Thanks,
Jim
