I have a Signet XK-50 tonearm(AFAIK identical to Audio Technica 1100) that came to me upside down, drained of all silicone oil from the damping trough. Any ideas regarding a replacement fluid?

... and have been hard-pressed to tell any sonic difference between them and the "real thing." 'Course if you can't easily get the stuff back out of the well with Q-Tips or whatever, you're better off sticking with something that has some credibility :-)
Try the link. I would e-mail the guy first to make sure he's still in business. An alternative is to use copier fuser oil, which is the same silicone oil. The problem is that you don't know the weight of it. However, the fluid for Canon color machines should work fine, and there are some medium bodied ones for Savin and Minolta copiers, although they are from days gone by. Ebay is a cheap source, if you take that route. You'll get a quart for practically nothing, say $30-40. It has other uses that a smart guy like you will think of, so it won't go wasted. ;-)
EDIT: neobop types faster that I do, so I missed his post because he made it while I was slowly plodding along with this one.

Could not resist.
This will give you an idea about viscosity:

o No further than your local hobby shop. RC model stores can a large variety of silicon in various viscosities for use in shock absorbers. Cheap too.
Maybe he sells the fluid separately.Link below. Look under "Mods" for "Fluid Damper".
Dean.
reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
