Hi! Due to life circumstances, I sold all my gears and walked away from this hobby for several years. Now that life is back on a stable course, I want to come back to this wonderful world. This means I have to... no, got to rebuild my system and get a new turntable. I audited the Rega RP1 (without the Perf upgrade) and the ProJect Debut Carbon with a Ortofon 2M Red. I found that the RP1 is too analytical to my taste although I like the clarity and the lower noise level. I like the ProJect setup because it is more musical but it is a bit muddy and higher noise level. My questions to you gentlemen is, how much of this is the 2M Red? I wonder if the RP1 + 2M Red (or even the Blue) will give me the best of two worlds, clarity, musicality and better noise level. Thanks in advance for your comments!

I can't tell you what the "Blue" sounds like in the turntables
you mention but I did find this interesting comparison recently.

Regards to all,

possibly the 540 MKII, which has a Gyger stylus, or more likely, since Roy Hall is notoriously greedy, the 530 MKII which is a line contact. Ortofon sells those carts for under $300.

The resemblance is striking.

Substituting the 2M Blue stylus would take it to the next level. the Debut is the superior deck, IMHO. And I'm a Rega fan, having owned no less than five of them.

What phono stage do you have? If you have a low-output moving coil capability, I would recommend trying a low-output moving coil. Denon makes some nice moving coils. Check out the Denon DL-301 II.
Thanks, John! But, the Denon is 30% more money than the 2M Blue. I am more interested in knowing the sound quality from the RP1 + 2M cartridge combo.
You do have a good question. I use a old Linn preamp as a phono amp which can take both MC and MM cartridge.
