...MORE/Kai Winding with Kenny Burrell/VERVE V-8551:
After looking at a house in Waycross, GA last Friday I stopped in an SA and found this NM copy; it will replace one that I literally wore out on on of these:
Now I remember why I wore it out!! It still makes my toes move.

I keep finding them in the thrifts for a song. And here in Holland, after 1990 they just stopped pressing pop albums on vinyl. Coldplay, Neil Young, Keane, Lenny K, Tori Amos, Freddie Mercury, Black Eyed Peas, Brian Setzer Orch. etc.
CD's have a few advantages. I eventually put them in DJ wallets, i found wallets that can hold 300 CD's! I put the jewel boxes in a box and store it in the attic. And a slightly scratched CD plays fine when the CDP can correct the errors.

...800 CDs is a LOT of music! There is a PS2 port for a standard computer keyboard to enter CD data; doing that many with the remote, forget it.

I have thought about a CD changer. Is the mechanism inside safe for your CD's? I don't want them to get scratched.
CD changers are mostly mid-fi while i have an old but once high end CDP.

...much more than in the house. They are stored vertically on a carousel and moved to the player; I did not find any damage for the few times that I used it. My older player uses a six disc cartridge; I liked that as each cart could have different music genres stored in it. I found no damage to my cds with that system; I used it for many years.

Live At Peps, Eastern Sounds and Cry!Tender. Some of my favorite jazz LPs.
Agreed!
on 45 rpm double 200 gram vinyl.
Initial impression: a truncated but enthusiastic WOW! Truncated only because D-wife kept chiming in with her thoughts while we were spinning this. I usually listen in total silence for the virgin play, but not this evening...
Overall, with what I did hear, I'm pretty impressed. Dynamics are pretty darn good! Morelo's drums have that "in the room" snap and slam that seems missing from the Legacy HDCD disc (and certainly not on my MN mono), and like I've read in another review (Fremer, IIRC), Brubeck's playing seems a little more bouncy and rhythmic.
There is a presence to the sound that draws you into the venue (take a look at the gatefold pics; especially of the one of the whole band (lower right of the photo), and you actually feel like you are in the room and can just nod and wink at Brubeck in acknowledgement of what those guys were doing. they knew their stuff!
Also, gotta love vinyl that is quiet enough that when the music ends, you can hear the tape hiss before the cut offs! I have a few records that are like that- quiet enough vinyl surfaces.
If you are hedging on this purchase, I suggest you hedge no further and pick it up. It really is that good!

Do you listen to all of these, one after another? Boy, I'd be sick of this work after that.
but I can listen to a symphony in succession if I like the tunes.
Tchaikovsky is tougher cuz, I don't much care for most of his work but once I have done a marathon Pathetique listening!
I highly recommend listening to Markevitch conduct the Tchaikovsky symphonies on Philips... best I've heard.

I'm playing this one out of curiosity since the subject of Stravinsky's three ballet's has been of recent discussions here. I want to compare this with the Mercury MG50058 which I listened to yesterday.
Previously, I've been listening to some Prestige Jazz compilations and then there was Bag's Groove, Theloneous Monk: No chaser.
