That Grado arm brings back memories. I had it mounted on a Rek-O-Kut..back in the day. Looks nice.

it sounds great. I've found that things I make almost always are more satisfying than things I buy. BTW, will you have that matching hand turned 3 horn Edgar type system done by tomorrow? :)
pretty spiffy :)

Very vintage! But, 4 grams VTF? Isn't that too much of a good thing?
I recently got a mid 1960s Philips TT for free with the original cart which needs 3 gram of VTF. I was a bit hesitant to spin my records with it. It sounded way better than expected though.

That's a good question. Personally I experience no hesitation whatsoever in dropping an aligned spherical diamond into a groove at 3-4 grams pressure and for some reason it makes me more comfortable than running an elliptical at 1.5 grams. I think it sounds better also. I like conical/spherical styli run at heavy tracking forces. It somehow feels right to me. On the other hand, there's the Shure M3D which isn't happy until it sees 5 grams. That's too much for me, so apparently there are limits.
