My brother is looking to get back into vinyl so I visited our local vintage audio store to see what they had to offer. I was amazed at how many turntables they had to offer but I'm only going to list the ones I believe were the best. All were in good cosmetic and working condition. They are: AR XB 49218 (needs head shell) 275.00
Denon DP-622/ $900.00
Thorns TD-180 /450.00
Thorns TD-125 MKII/ 650.00
Marantz 6100/ 255.00
I know its a wide spread on the dollar amount but I am curious to which the Asylum members would think is the best for the buck. Thanks in advance!

I'm not well versed in vintage tables but the prices struck me as really high for used tables. My question for those who posted is how these tables listed would compare to a new Pro-ject or like a Sota Moonbeam which could be bought brand new for these prices? I'm sure there are even more new options.
It has speed accuracy like a cd player, moment of inertia like the SP10MKII, and push button operation.
They are built like a tank and are easy to improve. Radio stations across America adopted this turntable before everything went digital.
I consider the SP 15 the sleeper of our century.
YMMV and probably will. However it is tough to beat a studio standard.

+1 on the SP 15 tubes (nt)
The only tables here I have experience with are the Thorens and the AR tables. Both can sound quite good when correctly set up. Before you buy one of these, however, be sure to remove the outer platter and belt and run them looking to be certain that the the motor shaft and pulley run perfectly and without wobble. If incorrectly handled, the platter can bang against the pulley/motor shaft deflecting the motor shaft resulting in a wobbling pulley. This ought to be avoided.
If the Thorens has a good arm, it seems to be the best priced choice amongst these offerings.
Good luck!

As noted prices are high but for what you get I lean to the AR in terms of better sound than expected and the Thorens as probably the best in pure music per buck.
If the Thorens has the stock arm then $400 is a fair price. You want to replace that arm and $250 will be needed for a matching quality second hand arm. Then the table will compete well up there with rated tables. Check if springs are new, condition of grommets, if table has been recapped & of course a new belt. If the motor has any indication of knock etc then pass.
Inmate DDarch has spares or will refurbish when $ allow.

AR XB 49218 (needs head shell) 275.00. / Priced way too high, especially since it needs a hard to find headshell.
Denon DP-622/ $900.00. / I assume you mean a DP-62. This is a very nice table, but the price is too high.
Thorens TD-180 /450.00. / An okay table, but not one I'd pay $450 for.
Thorens TD-125 MKII/ 650.00. / I assume with original Thorens arm? This is another very nice table. This and the Denon are the best tables on the list and choice comes down to personal preference. I could happily live with either one and if the prices were carved in stone this would be my choice as its the one priced closest to market value, from what I have seen.
Marantz 6100/ 255.00. / This would be a bad deal at half the price. Looks nice though.
You are very lucky to have a store with a selection of tables to choose from. Have they gone over the tables to make sure all is well? Or, have they just cleaned them up?
Its not unusual for a B&M shop to price things on the high side, they need to make a profit to stay in business. That being said, all of their prices (with the possible exception of the TD-125) strike me as high... they are asking too much of premium, unless the tables have been overhauled and come with a warranty.
If you are set on buying one of those tables, offer them $600 on the Denon, or $500 on the TD-125 and see where that leads. A quick check of completed auctions on FleaBay shows the DP-62 ranging from $500 to $650 and prices for the TD-125 are all over the map.
If their prices are carved in stone, I'd buy the TD-125 if your brother is in a hurry. Personally, I'd pass on all of them and start checking the local Craigslist. Hunting for a table on Craigslist takes patience, but can be very rewarding. Finding undervalued tables is not uncommon and tables like the AR would likely be $50.
Good luck !

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
support the brick and mortar store by trying to cut a fair deal with them for the one you want. They will most likely give you service, advice, alignment, etc, for the small premium you would pay. I don't look forward to the day when there are no real stores left.
Yup, the 6100 is worth 50 bucks which casts a shadow on all the other pricing, except curiously, the TD-125.

...I, too, would choose either the Denon or the Thorens TD-125 MKII, with a slight nod to the Denon only because I've always liked the look of that table.
I think his price are high by 50%
I think the goodness is roughly proportional to cost, of those on your list. But I also think the Denon and the TD125 may be a bit over-priced, unless both are completely re-furbished both electrically and physically.
