Pardon me while I wipe the drool of my keyboard.
Alaska as it is, much less BLUES 78s! The only blues 78s I have found crate digging are Elmore James and Rosetta Tharpe. All my good, affordable, blues 78s have come from eBay.
I prefer acoustic, folk, blues, but I will never be able to afford them. My favorite blues magician is Mississippi John Hurt. I do have several Blind Boy Fuller from eBay when they were affordable about ten years ago.
My son and I drove through the Mississippi Delta a few years ago, and we never saw one blues 78 or LP. In fact, we only saw two thrift stores on our route from the Northern tip of the state to the gulf. We did see a lot of poverty and people that must have had the blues, but nobody was singing about it.
Ah man GOLD pure gold there. If my post sounded nasty that was not my intent those pics alone are what I live for and listen to. Amazing when that blues bug bits you you are in love with the blues for life at least that has been my experience. Its worth every minute of searching to own the music. So many rare artists out there so many styles I better stop and go listen. Thanks all. And to have watched Honeyboy Edwards and talked with him those guys always inspired me to follow and practice practice practice
Thanks again, John
Just starting to spin some 78s. What has been your source for Blues on 78?
Thanks,
Mike
Lots of hours spent crate digging at yard sales, antique malls and thrift shops. Blues 78s are few and far between. I must've looked at 500 Ken Griffin organ records to find a few decent Blues 78s.
