Took a bit of elbow grease to get going, mostly cleaning, adjustments, and importantly trying to restore the idler wheel which initially had a hard as glass edge ... the guys at at the Vintage Asylum provided great info for restoring the wheel but frankly it should be replaced, well if I was aiming for "perfection". LOL
The biggest problem was a horrendous hum, so I replaced the RCA leads but it persisted. Investigating with a multimeter I discovered that one of the wires from the arm ... left channel "earthy", that straight from the Garrard manual :) ... was in electrical contacting the chassis/motor. That discovered I was in business.
Follow Ups:
I have a Type A that spins smooth as glass, but the changer mechanism appears to be gunked up. I suspect all in needs it a clean and lube. I was surprised how smooth and quite the idler drive was. I wish I had you M70. I will have to do with a conical Pickering for the time being. The AT cartridge that cam on it was a total mismatch.

Mine's not that quiet. I disengage the brake so can easily spin the platter without the idler wheel engaged, and the spindle bearing noise is easily audible, especially if spinning at 78rpm. It couldn't be mistaken for a modern bearing, meaning just about anything from the 70's on, if not earlier. Not a grinding noise or anything like that, and it will spin for a good period of time before stopping, but easily audible all the same.
But that doesn't bother me, I get a great kick out of getting it operational. I'll likely set it as my 3rd table in main system (phono stage hosts 3 tables) for playing/trying hard knocks records that I'd be nervous trying with one of my MCs. Also for playing 78s, which will be something new for me ... looking forward to that!
I will post when I get mine rolling. We can compare. I think it was very well maintained. It just stat a while.

Hum is awfully annoying, isn't it? I'm glad you solved that problem.
Perhaps someone somewhere sells a refurbished idler wheel. I think it's important to get it replaced or at least refurbished with new rubber.
Anyway, it looks like you're having fun.
Happy listening,
John Eilson
