I was looking at some of the past post just for the heck of it and checked out what I collect blues LPs. Just from a quick look it surprised me that not that many people enjoy the blues. I know this is not a blues site but I find blues recordings originals to have a very pure well made sound especially considering the conditions that they were produced under. Give me Son House, Lightnin Hopkins, Sonny Boy Williamson it goes on and on. But I realize its all a matter of taste and what hits you. Didnt mean to ramble but I sure did.
Follow Ups:
Joanne Kelly. crazy one but she's good and She was white British and sang Blues black and it's rare for a white singer to do that. So it's always fascinated me.
It's pretty ironic that a lot of rock and rollers that I grew up with know almost nothing about the blues and yet that same rock and roll was originally inspired by the blues. Go figure.
I never even heard blues until I was driving home from St. Louis and we heard some station playing a bunch of blues for the last hour of the journey. I've enjoyed it ever since.
My blues collection is still small but growing lately. I tend to favor the old blues masters. I'm not even sure why but it really doesn't even matter. I enjoy the music and that's all that really matters to me.
None of the record stores except Second Story Books in Rockville are anywhere near me so I don't get to them very often. I used to live just a few blocks from Joe's across the street from the old Walter Reed. Good store but the store at Picket shopping center is still the best one around for my money. Great selection every time I've been there. It used to be easier. I used to live just outside of Fairfax.
Eric Bibb has some really good stuff; I have it SACD, but it's also available on vinyl. I've attached one of his works.

I've got all of all of Josh White.
He is a great acoustic guitar player, and I had asumed he was mostly just a vocalist.
Pardon me while I wipe the drool of my keyboard.
Alaska as it is, much less BLUES 78s! The only blues 78s I have found crate digging are Elmore James and Rosetta Tharpe. All my good, affordable, blues 78s have come from eBay.
I prefer acoustic, folk, blues, but I will never be able to afford them. My favorite blues magician is Mississippi John Hurt. I do have several Blind Boy Fuller from eBay when they were affordable about ten years ago.
My son and I drove through the Mississippi Delta a few years ago, and we never saw one blues 78 or LP. In fact, we only saw two thrift stores on our route from the Northern tip of the state to the gulf. We did see a lot of poverty and people that must have had the blues, but nobody was singing about it.
Ah man GOLD pure gold there. If my post sounded nasty that was not my intent those pics alone are what I live for and listen to. Amazing when that blues bug bits you you are in love with the blues for life at least that has been my experience. Its worth every minute of searching to own the music. So many rare artists out there so many styles I better stop and go listen. Thanks all. And to have watched Honeyboy Edwards and talked with him those guys always inspired me to follow and practice practice practice
Thanks again, John
Just starting to spin some 78s. What has been your source for Blues on 78?
Thanks,
Mike
Lots of hours spent crate digging at yard sales, antique malls and thrift shops. Blues 78s are few and far between. I must've looked at 500 Ken Griffin organ records to find a few decent Blues 78s.
It's not a matter of not LIKING the blues - it's the fact that blues records are few and far between. I've had way more luck with CD's. OTOH, a good analog blues record is definitely a treat. Nothing but the blues!
"The torture never stops"Greetings Freek.
Just like Classic Rock, Jazz, and Classical music, my mood determines the genre to spin. Some of my favorite Blues records are Otis Spann, Champion Jack Dupree, Albert Collins, Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Copeland, Robert Cray, Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, Jimmy Witherspoon, Robben Ford, and Ronnie Earl (with or without The Broadcasters).
See ya. Dave

Hey! Magic Sam was a friend when I was 17-18. My friends and i would find a place for the band to stay when they traveled to Philly. I have seen many hundreds of blues concerts since then. Blues is alive an well in the Asylum. Yes! Magic Sam was unbelievable on stage!
