Has anyone heard the AT 33SA cartridge. I just noticed it. It's probably a recent addition to the AT moving coil line.I have not heard any of the AT33 series of cartridges. But I have been using AT OC9/ML and AT OC9/II for maybe 20 years. I like the AT "house sound" that people describe with the OC9 series.

Twilight Zone?
Hi, B,
When I need to replace an aging LOMC cartridge after I retire I'll likely buy one of the AT-33 line of cartridges. I have an AT-33PTG and think it's a standout for the price I paid. At $890 for the AT-33Sa, it's still a good value.
Regards,
Tom
I found the AT33PTG very similar sounding to the OC9ML/II. I have a number of recordings made by both and they sound quite similar. The AT33EV is a totally different animal. It is rather warm sounding and quite pleasing. I enjoy the sound of the AT33EV significantly more than the other two. I have never heard the new AT33Sa but I fear it might have more of the Audio Technica house sound.
I seem to like the sound of cartridges with aluminum cantilevers. The AT33EV has an aluminum cantilever. My current favorite cartridge, the Denon DL-S1 also has an aluminum cantilever. My favorite cartridge of all time, the original Ortofon MC-2000, also had an aluminum cantilever.
Best regards,
John Elison
Hi, John,
I'm hoping inmates are able to post comparisons of the PTG, EV, and new Sa. Audio-Technica seems to be putting some effort into expanding their line of affordable LOMC cartridges. I'm all for it. :-)I don't find the PTG to be bright at all with the right phono stage and loading. I haven't used other late-model AT cartridges so cannot make any comparisons in that regard.
Best,
Tom
