How about the Cirkus upgrade? Keel? The Cirkus may be the best bang for the buck upgrade Linn offers. Without knowing what all has been done to your LP12 its hard to say what you'd have to spend to replace it new, but my guess would be somewhere between $4k and $8k.

Is there an easy way to tell if any of these are already installed? It's easy to assume any upgrades to this table were done approximately 15-20yrs ago. I will investigate the Keel and Cirkus upgrades. Thank you.
The Cirkus sub-chassis has a larger more rigid bearing. I was checking the net for a picture so you could see the difference, but could not find one. The Keel is much easier to spot. The Keel does away with the attached arm-board in favor of a single sub-chassis/arm-board unit cut from a billet of aluminum. If your arm-board is made of wood, it's not a Keel.
I appreciate your research! Now that I know what to look for in the Cirkus. I will do some digging. My arm-board is made of wood.
The pre-Cirkus bearing's mounting flange is flat, and meets the round bearing housing at a right angle. The Cirkus bearing's mounting flange gets thicker on the bottom as it gets closer to the bearing housing - it has a triangular cross section. You'll need to take the bottom off your table to see which you have.
Thank you for the information :)
This is the Cirkus bearing.
And these are non-Cirkus bearing.
Altho, you can purchase a bearing alone, it is recommended by the factory that the inner platter and new bearing should be a matched piece to ensure the right fit. Also, be aware that the older inner platter sometimes does not fit the newer outer platter.
Great! Ill half to take a look now. Im betting i do not have that. Much appreciated!
After chatting with you folks, sounds like the LP12 still competes with modern tables. Looks like doing some upgrades and a good tuneup will get me far.
The Keel is an EXPENSIVE upgrade. There are less costly alternatives that do the same job if you shop around. The Keel does provide a significant improvement, but in absolute bang for buck terms the Cirkus is the winner IMO.
Are we talking $2-5k expensive? Did a quick search and was unable to find a price.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I did these upgrades so long ago that only the impressions of price were left in my brain. I did some spelunking in old records and found the sales invoices. Bought my LP12 new with a Basic arm in 1988 for the grand sum of $1400 tax included. The Cirkus was added in 2006 for $595. The Keel in 2007 for another $3.5k including tax. So, yes, in the $2 - $5k range. I should point out that I have no idea what current prices are. I suspect something like 20% higher or more by now.
Lol no problem, thank you for the advice and information, very helpful. That is a pricy upgrade.
Here is the link to the Linn LP12 forum. There is probably as much discussion on upgrades as a sane person can handle.

Awesome, thanks! Probably not the best place to ask about upgrading to another table. Being a Linn forum I bet they are a bit bias. No doubt the best place to ask about upgrading the table itself though.
