overtures and dances, not the whole operetta. Most records will have just the overture, but I find the dances to be really special too! Any suggestions? I don't see any recordings that have those on a disc...

and the sound is closely miked but good or better than good. At least that is my memory. I have a release with less material than the full stuff.
I also have a Reiner hybrid RCA SACD with Chicago. Overture to BB only.
The Neumann should be great, but mine is still sealed. I have other materials (Ma Vlast, complete) from these artists.
Szell is my favorite for these, but here's another good one that's pretty easy to find. Columbia MS 6897.
This is a good one as well, and also easy to find, although it does not have the Polka, just the Overture, Furiant and Dance of the Comedians. Westminster WST 14030
thanks, knew about the Szell, but not sure about the quality of those Epic records, and was unaware of the Bernstein. Another song from the "Bartered Bride" is "let us rejoice, let us be merry". I don't know if that is available as a instrumental, but that has just an amazing and lovely melody! Is it available outside of the full operetta?
EMI Concert Classics SXLP 30125 "Bohemian Festival" with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Rudolf Kempe. This includes the Overture, Polka, Furiant, and Dance of the Comedians
Telefunken SAT 22506 with the Gewandhaus Orchestra conducted by Vaclav Neumann. This includes the Overture, Furiant, and Dance of the Comedians.
Both are excellent performances with good sound. To get the rest of the delightful music you really need to buy the complete opera.
