Started stuffing the board on my Bugle 2 kit, came up short one 47k5 resistor.
OK to replace with a 47k Rat Shack carbon film from my parts box?
I did send an email to Jim Hagerman, but you guys here are always my go-to for info.
On anything.

Who knows? Maybe the missing resistor will turn up in one of our cats' litter boxes.

resistors are futile.
(Oooooooo....bad one....)

Built mine four years or so ago and haven't looked back except to add the AC power supply and, when the Bugle 2 was introduced, I swapped in the newer op amps with good results.
Enjoy.

These are the R24 & R25 I believe, which should impact power mainly. Just measure the 4.7 & 4.75 with a DMM. I believe Jim uses 1% carbon comp, so if the 4.7k is overspec, the match will be close enough. Test the board afterwards at test points to see how balanced the voltage is.
One approach (delay) gets you the perfect match. The other will have you so enthusiastic once you hear this unit, you will probably end up playing with cap and resistor changes anyway.
Personally I like to find the optimum match and then just let the unit play. Damaging board traces by repeated swaps doesn't excite me.
I like the Dale military resistors where possible, but the experts on this hang out on DIY/tubes.

I might just try the RatShack resistors in both channels, get the Bugle up and running.
The kit came with 681 Ohm and 100 Ohm resistors but there's no place for them on the board and no reference to them in the stuffing guide.
I'm guessing these are for more gain? I'm sticking with 40db.

probably for loading MC cartridge. he might have tossed those in instead of the 47k on a brain fart/fat finger, etc.
fat finger totally understandable.

Very little matching necessary, they're mostly dead on spec. And red!

You can try a sample @ their website. I have used these in critical stages previous and like em. and ordered a sample for my Bugle2.
The nice thing about DIY is you can do whatever you fancy. Go ahead and pop it in. If Hagerman says you need the other one he'll send it to you, in the meanwhile you'll have your amp for the few days while waiting for the proper resistor. It won't hurt anything or make it sound terrible.

Says it's OK to substitute but that the channels should be matched.
I do have about half dozen 47K resistors and put one in each channel but I'll probably wait. I like to take my time with these projects anyway.

Your resistors are likely 5% tolerance, so, sure, use the 47K.
