Stu had given me some copper covered mu metal to apply to an old Grado Black and in the middle of the deal i went too far with some ferro fluid and broke it. so i had this mu metal stuff left over and sitting around. So i placed a magnet on the front of an already modded at95e /w Shubata. put the mu metal front and flanks.i didn't think there was any grain till after I put the mu metal /w magnet on. nice increase in clarity and breadth. thanks again, Stu.

Interesting mod. It would be even more interesting with a test report. I wonder about separation vs output.
Have you tried potting your 95? If you unscrew the top and remove it, you can get a small amount of liquid epoxy into the screw receptacle. It won't take much. Then the top must be glued back on, but first fill the empty spaces with modeling clay.
This seems to help. It mimics the Clearaudio wood top only different. All the Clearaudio MMs are basically AT95 motors in high end clothing.
Somebody on Karma opened up his 95 and did more extensive potting. It should be even better.
The ATN95SA is a Jico shibata - bonded tip on a straight aluminum cantilever. This is a nice sounding stylus IMO and there's nowhere to go from here in aftermarket styli except possible 3472 series substitutes. These include the P-mounts with the tall sides like the AT92E(CD) and are better on med/low mass arms. The selection is pretty much the same only they'll track around 1.5g and seem a little more nimble.
Other than that it's either stylus transplants or sending it to someone like Soundsmith. I bet it sounds pretty good as-is. Maybe I'll look for a suitable magnet. Any suggestions?

just got over killing a Grado Black trying to place ferro fluid on the coils so i am gun shy about going anywhere near the coils on this 95.
The magnet was an Idea Stu gave me. Take a refridgerator magnet and I use a hole puncher to get a small cicular piece. I let it draw itself and orient, pole wise, then i just leave it unless adding this mu metal or something else like copper tape. then i glue it. easy.
i ran super gl;ue at the edge of the plastic to damp it and added a brass plate on top. i am sure the body is well damped - enough for safety's sake.
no test report forthcoming. uninterested. it either sounds different/better or it doesn't, and with that i am satisfied.
The AT 95 was an LP Gear model, right? They offer a number of modified ATs.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
That's how we say it over here. ;-)
It is an LP Gear stylus and I cut the plastic away leaving only the stylus and the plug ridding it of that plastic mass - mostly. Also glued it to a brass plate.
The Shibata really makes the 95 a whole new thing. This small magnet and metal mod increase the refinement a lot more.

to listen to. For the most part I much prefer the elliptical stylus/aluminum cantilever ATs over ther more radical cut styli models. The AT-33EV is on my short list to try next.

the shibata is the smoothest 'detail without edge' stylus among the sharper cuts. the 95e rocks just the way it is, stock. but these mods move it, like the DL-103, etc, into a whole new league. No need to go there but after going, no want to go back.i love modding these low cost carts. with improved performance i get pride of ownership and a far more uglier look. i am not sure what it is, but i like the hacked up look. a la tube amp without cage.
