Ever heard of 'rubber'❓......or styrofoam❓.....or plasticine❓
Follow Ups:
I hadn't considered certain non-rigid materials. I was guilty of shooting from the hip. I actually think you could make a tonearm out of styrofoam; it would be very light, ideal for high compliance cartridges. And you could ship it, packed in styrofoam. To my ears, tonearms, cartridges, and even speakers constructed wholly or in part from carbon fiber (like the tonearm on this 3K turntable) always have a distinctive coloration. I attribute that coloration to "resonance". I probably should have left it at that.
I agree with you about carbon fibre tonearms......
Those I have heard have not impressed.....👀👎
I'm not sure one can imply from this that it is a 'resonance' problem....❓
There is much about the analogue reproduction chain that we simply don't yet understand...and which science has not yet explained....😢⁉️
My list of things 'I know I don't know' in audio....is larger than my list of things 'I think I know'....😕🎼🎵
They make lousy tone arms. Sorry, couldn't resist.
