In Reply to: RE: For Marantz 6350Q: Use db systems alignment protractor or turntablebasics mirror? posted by John Elison on October 25, 2014 at 10:17:49
I -do- have the stock 45 adapter, surprisingly. Thanks
So, if I orient the the adapter correctly, would the cross mark also give me information about the effective length?
Follow Ups:
Yes, with the stylus in the cross mark, Marantz states the effective length is 8-15/32 inches, which translates to 215.1-mm. Unfortunately, that's the only tonearm parameter provided by Marantz. You can find the service manual at the Vinyl Engine website.
Thanks John.
I'll try to figure out what I'm doing here, with the asylum FAQs, and the tools and information I have.
If you are interested in a free arc protractor generator program that you can download, I really like Conrad Hoffman's Custom Arc Template Generator for Phono Cartridge Alignment . You can download it for free at the link below. There are also some basic equations for tonearm alignment geometry that apply to all pivotal tonearms that I've posted below. In my opinion, the best alignment null-point radii are 66-mm and 120.9-mm known as Löfgren A. This is the alignment recommended by your DB Systems protractor and also your Turntable Basics protractor. However, your tonearm might not be mounted close enough to the platter spindle to achieve those null-points. You might have to settle for Stevenson's alignment with null-point radii at 60-mm and 117.2-mm, which require less overhang.
Good luck,
John Elison
