Pioneer PL 6A. Came from a guy I know who got it from the original owner. He bought this, a Sansui 500A receiver, and some other gear in Japan in the 60's. Had the original Pioneer PL C9 cart on it, which sounded ok, but I switched it out for a Shure M55E with a N44E stylus, tracking at just under 3g. Sounds really great.

Hi there,
That's a very nice example of an early Pioneer turntable indeed.
I lived in Japan for a few years, and saw lots of examples of the Japanese high-end audio in the shops and arches around Akihabara station in Tokyo. Pioneer later created the Exclusive brand for their high end turntables.
Generally, the domestic marked offered a line-up of superior equipment compared with that which was destined for export.
Best regards,
BK
That looks like a really nice surviving sample. It has been well kept, me thinks.
It looks like the arm has some mass. Not a light weight. A good thing.

….are you using a 100V transformer with it or just your house ac? Or perhaps it's been modified to run on 110 somewhere along the way.
Has a 115v/230V toggle under the platter.

Looks great! How's it sound?
Well, I'm a big fan of idler tables, and this table delivers that big bold sound in spades. So for me it sounds great. Certainly not the last word in detail or delicacy, given the arm, and the cart I have on it. On the other hand, those things are terribly important to me.
never seen it so share more info.

I really don't have much info other than it's from the mid-60's. I purchased it from a buddy who got it from the original owner. That person bought it in Japan in the 60's. It's an idler, 3 speed. Works just about perfectly. A bit of noise but from sitting position, and during music, doesn't interfere. As you might imagine a big powerful sound easily as good as my other idlers(Garrard Lab 80, Dual 1019, Elac Miracord 50H).With the Shure M55E on it I'm able to quickly change styli to spin 78's, which it's excellent with.
Great looking, great sounding table.
Here's a link to some sales literature with some pretty funny translation from Japanese.
