The AC-2 has an output of only 0.18mv at 5 cm/s. Pretty low.
But thanks for confirming the jumper settings.
The cartridge has a minimium resistance loading of 50 ohms. Years ago I used an SA-2 with this cartridge and 54-57 ohms seemed optimal to me .... was recommended by the west coast dealer I bought the SA-2 from.
It will be awhile til I get this set up. Have to loaate quality resistors, and then pull the preamp from a very difficult to service setup.

those should be good enough and you get some other values just in case without breaking the bank.Just give the Sa-1000 preamp a shot and see how it reacts with this cart. That's the only way you will find out.
The Counterpoint SA-1000 responds very well to a few simple upgrades that will kill some more expensive preamps. better power supply caps, a few good resistors in the signal path, and some really good film caps in the signal path and you will have a really nice sounding preamp. preamp. I know cause I did mine like that.

Thanks, Cougar. I've already sourced the Dale resistors. Good minds think alike.
As to future upgrades, I'm going to do that. I'll source the components. I have a friend who repairs amplifiers who I'll have actually do the work since at my age I'm not too steady with the hands.
Did you consider the transformer upgrade as well?

ps Any chance of having a copy of the tech diagram(s) and parts list scanned and sent?

But I would first if the preamp is quiet to were there in no hum or buzz with the stock transformer. Just do the other upgrades and leave the power transformer for last so just in case there is any issues you know what change/s may have caused it. I did that along with other stuff and I had a hum I could not track down forever but I finally found that transformer was causing it. the cure was removing the Plitron transformer from within the chassis and making it external.
I also totally upgraded the phono section too! ;)
best of luck!
