If you want to step up the sound of that Cornet, try a 12FQ7 in place of the 12AU7. The only consideration is filament current; check with Hagerman to be sure that the PS can supply the filament current that is a bit higher for the 12FQ7 than for the 12AU7. Otherwise, the electrical parameters and pin-outs are the same, so no circuit changes are necessary. 12FQ7s are readily available. I speak from experience; replacing the 12AU7 output tube on my Quicksilver preamp with a 12FQ7 was very worthwhile. (This is a known tweak among Quicksilver owners.)

I know it sounds sexy, but I think that's just another name for a 12AU7. Anyway, try it, by all means.
