Maybe it's the guy Steve who imports the Cayin ,Vas Citation 2 mono blocks & Aurum Cantus Speakers. They trading company is just besides the VPI factory. I was able to meet him personally when last summer 2013 I made a visit to the VPI factory visit. Very nice fellow. He helped out to upgrade my sister's HW 19 MK 2 .
I wonder if the new line of VPIelectronics are made in the USA?

No, it's not. Just because the model number is "299D" does not mean it is the same thing. Cosmetically it might pay homage to a vintage Scott integrated amp with its champagne gold faceplate and tone controls. But no version in the 299 series amps has potted transformers nor meter. All 299 versions used either 7591 or 6BQ5 tubes and the ones in the pictures do not look like either.
