Well actually I didn't find it, my brother sent me this image.
I had heard that VPI was going to be releasing some new designs in the next year. This particular one is nothing groundbreaking as far as TT design goes, but it is a new direction for VPI. As much as I am a fan of the looks of traditional turntables, I think the skeletal design of this new unit is pretty hot.
Follow Ups:
This looks very similar in concept to the Transrotor Apollon, also with three bands. I think they are designing Euro, rather than retro.
Ciao,

The arms, yes. But that table has too much that smacks to me of "retro." Triple belts went out in the last century, there's no outer ring, and the wood/metal weight/clamp looks downright weird. Of course I could be wrong :-)
Harry once told me that for tighter sound use up to 3 belts, making a belt drive have much of the virtues of a good rim drive.
FWIW, I had one of the early VPI TNT tables (Mk II) with SDS and it had the three belts which I kept talcuumed and boiled -- not at the same time :-) -- per VPI recommendations at the time. Later TNTs reverted to a single belt, as I recall, and I thought the Mk II was the last to use them.
Unfortunately it was easily outperformed by the first of my two modified Lencos (Idler drive) and then sold after I got the second Lenco which was still better. That TNT was a looker, but it never sounded all that great, to me at least, 3 belts or no.
I'm not 100% sure but I believe that it is.VPI has used two belts recently on the Classic 3 and 4, and there is a peripheral ring - look a little closer. The motor pod looks exactly like the one for my Aries and the platter and pulley also look like VPI products. The skeletal plinth is designed with the same sandwich of materials used in the Aries 3 and HRX.
That and the fact that I remember reading somewhere, Mat Weisfeld mentioning some new designs coming out of the factory in the next year.
So I'm about 99%. (winky face)

Well, since the anti-skating thingie doesn't appear to be hooked up on the far tonearm and there's no sign of one on the other arm -- and we all know HW's feelings about anti-skate -- you may well be right :-)
But I have to say I think the whole shebang looks kinda ... generic ... and designed more for wow than for performance. I'd take the Classic IV and the direct-drive job in a minute over this one. Need I add YMMV/IMHO?
Why, if you reimagine the Melco 3560 (I guess) - not make it look more like one? That's just me, though.
This way it's just not here nor there.
When flying commercial you want the aircraft to be maintained and operated by sound standards.
Niiiiiice! Not to mention shiny!
I bet it specializes in heavy metal (in a polished kind of way!)

At least doesn't have those God awfull looking clod-hoppers as footers.
Hey, my guess it can take 3 arms as well. Being as it's probably an AC motor, I'm sure the SDS is optional. AC motors don't need strobes, just clean a signal/current.
Nt
Looks like a Scoutmaster meets HRX.
Super platter and ring.
Why do people prefer the Classic design? On this and the other sandwich plinth models the motor is decoupled from the plinth. This Classic is a lot like the HMW19 revisted.
Their best tables are not Classics but the Aries and HRX. Preferably with the idler drive. Which I hear they quit making. Weird
it's about the music
I don't mean to rain on your parade, but, seriously, it's driven by rubber bands. And, as far as I can tell, there's no strobe nor speed control.
:)
With those two $2300 arms, I would say retail would be around $10-12K.
I bought a used Aries a coupla years ago. I love it and am in no rush to replace it.
I'll wait a decade a or so and scoop one of these up used.
> I would say retail would be around $10-12K.
I think that's wishful thinking. I guess we'll find out soon. ;-)
Mmmmmm, no direct drive motor, I'd guess about the same price as an Aries III without any arms. Just a guess though.
It's a very sharp looking tt. I wonder what will be it's cost.
