My friend in Houston has decided to play his extensive vinyl collection but found his Thorens dead. We're a little fuzzy re.the model. Anyone know a shop in the Houston area where he could take it for a new belt (most likely issue)?
Follow Ups:
Make sure the belt is on the pulley. I always give my thorens a hand by giving the platter a little spin to get it going at start up to reduce belt wear and slipping. Does it have a removable outer platter? It's easy to see the belt in action by putting the platter on upside down.
Two places come to mind:
Save on Sound Electronics Svc. on Antoine Ave,, (713) 957-9600, Tom Tran, owner. Haven't been there in a few yrs, but he specializes in vintage gear.
Sound Exchange, record store on Richmond ave, (713) 666-5555, Kevin, co-owner, does basic turntable repair.

Thank you! I'm suggesting he take it to a knowledgeable guy so it gets a once over to make sure the tracking force is right, stylus isn't bent or some other disaster hasn't befallen it.
