This evening my local PBS station is airing "50s & 60s Rock Rewind". At the beginning of the songs they show a turntable with the arm swinging into place to play the song. But on the headshell is a label "DIGITAL"! What does that mean?
Are younger folks expected to naively believe the recording was digital?
Does this imply it doesn't matter if it is decades old, it's still modern (digital)?
Or is this a false implication of comfort because that "old" analog technology is now replaced by a "digital" pick up?
If this was not so sad it would be funny, but it is so funny it is sad.
I know my local PBS affiliate didn't produce this but I think I'll suggest their stupidity come Tuesday.

Follow Ups:
Hi, M3 lover,
Maybe the turntable had a built-in ADC to feed a DAC/headphone amp. Seems consistent with how some modern-day vinyl enthusiasts look at "stereo systems".
Or maybe it's just a dumb marketing gimmic. :-)
Regards,
Tom
hey Tim, settle down. there are idiot manufacturers that will put a catch word on anything. digital ready. surround ready. hd ready.
i have seen digital on headshells and other non appropriate items. yes, they are idiots. but don't let them get your pressure up. life is too short.

Maybe I need to get out more but I've not seen such silly mis-labeling before.
I don't think it affected my blood pressure but you're right tr, life is too short to become worked up by such idiocy. Since no one else commented apparently none thought it was that strange or stupid. ;^)

Dollar to donuts that "digital" headshell was mfg in China for the low information audio buyers who probably own the less than stellar Hanpin Turntable Factory SL-1200Mk2 knockoffs.
