Dman,
Thank You for the reply and advice.
Yes, I always listen first in stock form before doing tweeks/mods. The weakness in most better Dierct Drive tables is in the power supply with the transformers inside the table and vibration from them that get transfered right up into the table/arm/cart.
Just want to see how far this SL-1400MKII can go sonically.

I see your point with the trafos. That actually WOULD be something I would do too (relocate the P.S.), but only after I had a listen to see if it's worth the time or bother (meaning, of course, does it sound good or like a turd! LOL)...
Let us know what you decide and what steps you take.
Cheers,

I have a SL-1300Mk2 that's the full auto model in the 1300/1400/1500Mk2 series. Other than the well known part that fails and the auto features wont work which I expected but I'm able to use it manually it's in close to mint condition. I'll be purchasing shortly a new part to solve that issue. Checking the electronics I'm leaning towards the 1300/1400/1500Mk2 being closer to the SP-15. As for sound/performance stock it sounded every bit as good as a SL-1200Mk2, SP-25 and SP-15 and without 78rpm would be a lot more reliable. Up to you if you want to mod it or you might be quite content with it stock.
