I have had the Coronet 2 kit for three years and am finally starting to build it. This is a MM only phono preamp so to use a MC cart. I need a SUT. I would like to incorporate the SUT with the Coronet Chassis. The chassis will not allow for the SUT to fit. I am thinking of some type of add on chassis to the Coronet chassis. This will remove a couple of cables and clutter.Has anyone tried this? Were you satisfied with the results?

I had Beyer Dynamics TR/BV 351 015 000 series inside my Cornet2 before and never had a hum issue. The transformer, with 1:15 (which gives you ~200 ohms perfect for Denon 103) gain are cheap on Ebay ($25 was my last bid when I won a pair, but that was two or three years ago).
The transformer is small compared to other SUT I have. I it cylindrical at about 1.25 inch high and 0.75 inch diameter.
I don't know if others have had the same problem, but I get hum if the transformer in the Cornet 2 is too close to my SUT (Bob's Devices). Maybe you can shield against this or maybe my build is more sensitive for some reason.
I have Opus' old Cornet 2 and I use a SUT made out of Shure mic transformers. It works great. I bought them on ebay already mounted to a board - I'll bet the guy is still selling them. I just put it in a project box with some jacks.Edit - see link (no affiliation, etc.).

I specified captive Cardas ICs to remove one mechanical connection from the chain. Worked great with both a Dyna 20XL and a Uwe ebony body DL-103.
Kinda miss Al around here.

Jim used to sell a Sowter SUT in a separate chassis with a short jumper to phono sectiooon.
