Here is how you do the motor shaft right from HW as I had similar questions.
I have been talking with my Classic 3 assembler and he says the best way to do it is to loosen the set screws and slightly pry up the pulley (1/8") using a long thin bladed screwdriver. Put one 1 drop of super lube oil on the brass collar and push the pulley back down. Lightly tighten the set screws. He say it should not take more than two minutes for the whole process.
Just tried it and he is correct, very simple to do and if you do not remove the pulley nothing is disturbed.
HW
VPI sent me at no charge a bottle of "Super Lube" in a pen like bottle with a small needle type tip which allowed me to get the lubricant into the shaft but only after following his instructions above.
For the platter bearing you need to lift off the platter and you will see the shaft with a ball recessed into the top and you put less than a 1/4 teaspoon of White Lithium Grease on it and then put the platter back in place (This is directly from the operating manual which you can download).
I have done both and it works well.

I have the Classic II, where do you get the Lithium Grease. Do you know if the pulley device on the Classic II need lubrication like on the classic III?
Thanks,
I purchased the White Lithium Grease at Home Depot. Yes if you look at the Classic 2 owners manual you need to do the same.
