i can't add a lot of depth to this but there was a general complaint against some of the transformers among builders. not in all cases, mind you. i suppose the thinking is 'why should i be subject to this variable.' anyway, hum is a real drag for an OCD type. it's always there nagging away. you try this and that. and if it is the trasformer and/or the way it was sorted into the machine then ... i gave up on it. which is why the outboard PU is a big plus for me.
then again, how can you say NO when you have alreaqdy had the cornet2 and you know you are curious.
And in my system, it did hum slightly.
I'll tell you what eliminated the hum altogether - I bought some tube extenders (which save the sockets from getting worn when swapping tubes). For some reason, getting the tubes up a little made the difference. You can crank it and now it's just glorious tube rush. :)
i tried that and it reduced the hum but did not eliminate it.
i no longer have it anyway. GREAT sound but the hum...
Have you tried moving it around? Might be picking up something from a neighboring piece of equipment.
it definitly picks up fields, that's for sure.
Bu no mater what i could never eliminaes the hum.
See, you have caught the 'get rid of the hum' bug. ;-)
I even sent it back o Jim but no good on return.
It may have been soemthing in my sysem but none of the other phono's hum so i gave up on the cornet. UNTIL NOW!!!!!
No, it's good now, my DAC was making it hum a little.
i swear i wished i coulda figured it out. the sound of that phono was really nice. i spent about two years fooling around with it. when Jim came up with the seperate wallwart it was like: YES YES..
For my Cornet 2, the hum comes when the transformer is too close to my Bob's SUT.
