The Connoisseur BD-1 by Arnold Sugden of The UK. Do a search around the web and find that the model gets some respect. Perhaps it is better known in the UK than in NA. Connoisseur also built idler drive turntables prior to the belt drive models.
Under the Sugden name Sugden built amplifiers, pre-amps and integrated amps. Last I heard, they are still making product. And these products get respect as well.
The Audionics of Oregon LK-1 is interesting to me, perhaps more so than the Sugden turntables. A quick Google search turns up a document written by the founders of the company in pdf form. It seems the LK-1 was developed in cooperation with Dr. Sao Win of Win labs. This alone makes me want to audition one. I've no idea if the turntable was made in house or if the mfr of it was sub-contracted. But I like the idea of it coming from Oregon. I was living around Portland at the time this firm was in business. And I don't remember hearing of them....alas.
my choice:
the LK-1

PS: I like where these WTF posts are going. Very interesting in an educational sort of way.
Follow Ups:
I've wanted to include one of his tables for a while now, but pictures seem elusive. I've seen two: one was kind of Oracle-like (lots of plexi) and one was more traditional, but my memory of them is vague.I'll keep looking.
This is the only image I have found ...
I seem to recall he was invloved with the design of the Gale table.
I'm glad you are enjoying WTF. This week I tried to dig into the realm of obscurity. Many had/have not heard of Audionics. Thanks for the link.
Dean.
reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
