I have a Sansui SR-313, completely stock. But the Goldring 1022 is not the lightest cartridge to use with, and I prefer how the deck tracks when the counter-weight is closer to the bearing. Any suggestions? I am particularly interested in ideas on how to attach any additional weight other than blu-tack.
Here's a stock pic.
Thanks folks.

Works great on my Technics 1200 counterweight
A better hardware store will have a thread-less collar with a set screw, about $2 for a chrome one. I put it on behind the counter weight if there is enough shaft. You'll probably need a scale depending on how it fits.
I did that on a few vintage tonearms with small counter weights.
...and is adjustable, too:
Good luck in finding a solution.

Stick a dime on the back with blue tack......
Use gloves when handling. Just tape a piece on the CW.

Thanks.
Well, you could go to hardware store and look for a large washer with a hole big enough for the arm stud to go through. Then you could either glue the washer onto the rear end of the counterweight or use double sided tape to attach it.
Good luck,

counter weight. It works, is adjustable and looks OK.

the Zu really needs additional counterweight, hence the washers. You can actually get away without the additional washers but the large counter weight is then literally hanging off the back of the arm and is not particularly stable in that position.
As usual, your post is of value.

I don't have an answer for adding the weight. The Sansui SR-313 was my first good turntable. I bought it while in college in the late 70's from Audio Associates in Wheaton Plaza. I sold when I acquired a Hydraulic Reference with a Grace 707 tonearm. The picture brought back some memories. I remember that knife edge tonearm. I see you are running yours without the anti-skate weight. is that by choice?
Dave
I use an anti-skate weight. The picture is one I found on the net because I was feeling lazy!
The SR-313 with a Goldring 1022 is sonic brilliance. Easily out-performed the VPI Scout I had previously. I was happy with the Scout and bought the 313 out of curiosity (I am fond of 70's chunky belt drive decks). I couldn't believe what the 313 was doing with showing the Scout a clean pair of heels.
I also have an SR-222MKII, but it's no 313.

The SR-222MKII is similar, but it has a gimbal arm. The SR-313 is a knife edge. Maybe there is something too the knife edge (SME). Unfortunately, it was too long ago, and I was too new to audio to remember how it sounded. I do remember being impressed with the arm.

one easy way is to get lead shot and blu tac. mix togeher and tuck i into space at back or tonearm. if lead shot is no available you can use brass screws, etc..
