If you have no sense of history, don't refer to it.
The SOTA Japanese direct drive tables of the 70's sold at prices that in today's dollars would be in the $30-$40,000 range.
If you are referring to the late, un-lamented Technics SL-1200 series...It was a mid-fi mass market product then and remains so except in the minds of those wishing otherwise.

In 1981 an SP-10 Mk 3 sold for around $1700.
You believe that 31 years later that would translate into 30-40 K?
And you base that on what exactly?
If you are saying that a handful of rabid audiophiles would pay that for a direct drive turntable built by a cottage industry outfit you are correct, hell some would even double your high figure in the range you posit.
