Hello all. A former co-worker called and wondered if I might like to check out his record collection, which he no longer wanted due to downsizing. Well, duh.I flipped through two of the four boxes, which had been sealed for nearly 25 years, and offered all of the cash I had on me, which was $175. He was thrilled, and I'm still discovering cool stuff.
I'm not going to sell anything, except for maybe The Doors and Mothers of Invention, and plan on keeping them all together rather than integrate them with the rest of my collection. They need to stay together.
Everything seems to be first or second US pressings, and some of the gems include mono Dylan, Stones and an instant Kinks collection, much of which is also mono. Not pictured are first seven Dylans, most of the Stones through "Some Girls," and a numbered "The Beatles." Enjoy the pics.

is that you already have it, not that you don't think that album worthy. It is about as good as music gets.
Opinions vary.
Why yes they do. And everyone is entitled to their own. But some are better than others
Look on the bright side. If everyone liked Zappa, you never be able to find his albums in the thrift stores, yard sales, etc.! In the 80's I traded a Foghat and a Styx album for 200 Motels. I am sure glad that guy did not like Zappa.

Please don't become one of those guys on this site. There are plenty here, already.
It's been a lot of years since I actively cared about the Mothers and a listen to "Absolutely Free" didn't change anything. So yes, I'll sell it because I don't like it, and when I want to hear some Zappa I'll stick with "Bongo Fury."
Fair enough?
What? A guy who thinks some opinions are better than others? Do you actually disagree? Besides, I was responding to "opinions vary", which is a pretty hostile comment, it seems to me -- both snarky and pointlessly truistic. All I had been trying to do was to praise Absolutely Free -- encourage you to give it a chance, in case you were being closed minded about it. But I see you weren't.
They can be quite valuable, and a single crease or tear can put a major ding in the price. I know you didn't buy the collection for monetary value, but if value is there you might as well preserve it.
is a nice score. Some great records there, enjoy!
Wow. I don't even try to collect 60s classic rock (or jazz) on LP, with rare exceptions. They are too valuable and sought after. That's an impressive collection right there.
Good for you for paying your friend real money. I doubt a dealer would have paid any more, though retail would be a lot more, of course. I always tell friends who offer me LPs that I will let them know if any of them are valuable, but it doesn't happen often. Beatles and Dylan are typically scratched to h#ll.
So far everything is shiny enough for me to see my reflection. Really well-maintained, although he replaced the majority of original sleeves with those U-shaped plastic things, which I hate.Still, I'm dedicated to cleaning everything. I got ahead of myself and spun one of the Yardbirds records before a wet clean only to find a ball of crud from 1965 on my stylus afterward. Looks ain't everything when it comes to old records. I've played six or seven records and they're mostly dead quiet, other than the Yardbirds.
The only disappointments so far, and I use that word very loosely, is that Zeppelin II isn't a Ludwig (it's a Columbia Terre Haute, and sounds fantastic), and he kept all of The Beatles up to "The Beatles." Also, there isn't any classical or jazz, other than a couple of Jimmy Smiths. He gave the classical away.
I forgot the Nilsson collection. I've been looking for clean copies of "Pandemonium Shadow Show" and "Ariel Ballet" for years.

...lots of wonderful stuff there.
The best deals are when both parties are thrilled !
Congrats.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
What a great collection. Keep us posted as you uncover more gems.

Always cool to find period- better yet, mono stuff. Over time I've built up the mandatory eary Stones mono collection.
Was "SaTanic" originally offered as both M/S?
I only have a greatest hits Donovan which sounds very good. Those copies if clean, must sound great.
The Yardbird stuff is impossible to find in my neighborhood.
Play Jimi very loud regardless of ticks/scratches.
Cleaned the first Jimi album and listening now. Holy crap. It sounds so good. Reminds of the Friday night in 1976 when a buddy and I somehow got ahold of a pint of Southern Comfort and some ditch weed while my mom was helping my sister with a newborn. It was my first real drunk, and this record was the soundtrack. We listened on the lamest stereo possible and it was magic.
On a side note, I haven't touched Southern Comfort since.
Wow, nice haul! I also got a nice batch of very clean classic rock records from a co-worker - no Yardbirds unfortunately, but there was an RL LZII.
