According to Ortofon's timeline, they made their first moving coil cartridge in 1948, ten years before your 1958 date.

I thought the question was magnetic not moving coil. If not I stand corrected.
comprise all forms of magnetism. Whether derived from a moving coil surrounding the cantilever within a magnetic gap or magnetic space, a moving iron slug attached to the cantilever and moving within a magnetic gap, or any other pickup assembly that moves or cuts magnetic lines of force in sync with the record grooves; these could all be categorized as magnetic...ENJOY !
Except for strain-gauge cartridges, all other cartridges used today are magnetic cartridges. They include moving magnet, moving coil and moving iron.
I wonder why they say Joseph Grado invented the moving coil cartridge back in 1953?
The fax system actually dates back to way before WWII. As an invention became patented, the publication of the patent might appear internationally within hours or days ! This is how a Euro or Asian company could apply for a very similar patent in their countries during the same era ! Research the invention of the vacuum tube and you will be amazed how many inventors and countries claim the "first."
