In my more ignorant days, I applied rubbing alcohol to a few of my lp's which are now plagued with bad surface noise, probably due to the residue left by the rubbing alcohol.
Anybody with experience of cleaning out the residue?

Residue left by rubbing alcohol?
No, more like vinyl permanently scarred by alcohol.
is it residue or damage from the solvent?
I doubt it's due to alcohol. I have used isopropyl without issues.
I've used 99% isopropol alcohol(and rinsed well with steam-distilled water)on over 1200 records without incident.

However rubbing alcohol often contains perfumants which may leave residue. I always use the 90% pure isopropynol: no additives. try cleaning with as pure alcohol as.you can get. Also some plastic sleeves interact w alcohol so be sure to dry after cleaning

I tried 99% isopropyl but did not get rid of the noise completely.
You are spot on about the sleeves. I had a couple of LP's damaged - with surface noise - at the outer grooves due to incomplete drying before returning the lp into the sleeve. It took me a while to figure that out. Always happened with the first side I cleaned and probably due to solution overflowed from the second side that was cleaned. I now always follow up with a final vacuuming of the first side and let the lp dry completely.
