A long shot, but I figured it can't hurt to ask. I'm in Bakersfield for about a week visiting some friends of my wife's and might be able to do a little hunting. Thanks, Chris
Follow Ups:
I've just returned after a few days of biz there and went thru the bins.
Small, with the usual suspects in Rock, Jazz etc. I've found great stuff(even nos sealed)of things typically hard to find here in LA.
Prices are fair/market.
Get some Mexican food while you're at it.
didn't have time to go through that much, but, believe it or not, I actually got a couple nice classical things (2 early Westminsters in NM condition). I may go back. The guy working there was pleasant. Had Mexican last night and it was very good.

I have found excellent classical pieces there. NM cloth covered Angel, early Columbia, RCA etc.
The store caters to the younger crowd into punk/indie so the tired classic rock, jazz, blues and classical stuff is more likely to be found there.
My scores were: sealed 87 nos sealed reissue Bill Evan 1962 "Interplay"
J Geils "Bloodshot" original 73 red press
Howard Roberts-"Howard Roberts is a Dirty Guitar Player"
Got outta there for $23 bucks.
hit the downtown thrifts and there are a couple of record stores there not much else. go to Buck Owens Crystal Palace...stopped in just before closing one day there is a record wall as you go in worth seeing.
Check out Modern Amusement Company. 508 18th Street. 661 322-0448.
Should be plenty of Buck Owens and Merle Haggard albums to choose from (not that this is a bad thing!). Maybe some Dwight Yoakum too? Hit up the local thrifts.
Spent a couple hours going though a string of antique malls downtown, and I must have seen at least 15,000 records (not an exaggeration), and I'd bet that somewhere between 500 and 1,000 of them were by those two. I didn't know of the connection with Bakersfield that Haggard and Owens had, but I do now. Found a few things, not much, but it was fun. Would have been more fun if the temperatures in the antique malls weren't close to that of a blast furnace. I might have bought more if I wasn't dealing with having to ship them home. Not a problem at Amoeba Music in Hollywood (they ship for free), which I also went to. More about that soon.

... Merle Haggard albums sometimes have very good sound.
I like to listen to Merle, especially his later recordings.
