Groovy and Southbound. I mix it up a bit and also buy on eBay but sometimes Groovy has things I've missed over the years and I like the vibe.First time for me, doing RSD in NZ. Got there just before 8am, expecting a huge queue. Only about 15 of us. Got busy at about 8.30 though. Everyone was friends until the doors opened...
Got some interesting stuff:
Tears For Fears // Ready Boy & Girls
Jaco Pastorius // Modern American Music ... Period!
Paul Weller // Brand New Toy
Grace Jones // Me! I Disconnect From You
Gil Scott-Heron // Nothing New
Meade "Lux" Lewis // Melanchloly
Albert Ammons // Boogie Woogie StompBored Games // Who Killed Colonel Mustard
Spelling Mistakes // Feels So Good
Suburban Reptiles // Saturday Night Stay At Home
Suburban Reptiles // Saturday Night Stay At Home (gold disc)
The Chills // The Dunedin DoubleSome of this was bought on subsequent days, as people overlook a lot of discs (like the Lewis and Ammons Blue Note releases). Still on the look out for the Wes Montgomery releases (but unlikely to find at a reasonable price thanks to eBay hawks).
Not sure I would want to do it again unless I really wanted something - I find it the behaviour quite aggressive and vulgar! But I do want to support my records stores.
Did you go?

Hi
You got a decent haul there! I didn't know TFF had released anything new recently - gosh I'm really falling behind. I used to be a religious collector of their stuff and I thought Everybody Loves a Happy Ending was their swansong.. Dammit! I've got to start again ;)
I didn't go to RSD this year - in previous years I have, but in recent months I found that I wasn't finding much collectible stuff and the prices weren't really matching the condition of the records I did find. In the last 12 months I've been buying from overseas indiduals from Ebay, Discogs etc. Although sometimes the postage is unattractive, the product has never disappointed and for me the big advantage is avoiding the push and shove!
Don't you just hate the people going through in the opposite direction who start rifling through at high speed in the rack RIGHT NEXT to you as though to push you out of the way or they have spread their stacks of vinyl ON TOP of stacks away from their search spot instead of carrying their growing pile with them? The worst is when they reach across and grab something in your stack just as you are about to flip....
Occasionally you get some interesting conversations, but most of the time everyone is too busy trying to grab as much as possible and trying to push you out of the way. Manners are definitely on the decline!
Do you know I have never heard about Southbound until now?! WIll have to go and check them out!
Cheers!

I know what you mean about buying abroad. I'm on a mini-mission to extend my jazz collection with obscure items and alternate pressings of discs I like.
At Groovy, I found a couple of chaps next to me were deliberately trying to push me around the racks - so much so I had to stop and point out that, if it came to it, I am quite a bit larger than they are...
Got Southbound's details ? They're pretty good, though their second-hand selection is limited. They'll get new discs for you more reliably than Groovy though, if you have specific needs.

Cheers! Mt Eden road.. Got it!
BTW You'll be pleased to see the value of your TFF 10" is rocking up - it's up to NZD80 already on Discogs.com!
