My lathe my bronze :)...i bet you can find stock with the id and od close enough so it is 4 cuts, there cutters. One boring bar to clean up the id, one carbide to clean up the end the outside and one cutoff. really 5 mins total...
Now if you want something that looks like it was meant to fully support the total base of the arm...that is a lot more work. multiple setups on a milling machine and precision boring on the mill, and and...so i understand the washer concept, but it is really lame :)

If so, please PM me.
I had the same thought as you and others regarding that spacer. It's not elegant, but it does do the job. "Elegant" would be if it exactly followed the shape of the base of the tonearm proper, but I don't think anyone would hear a difference.
Absolutely not...
see ?
well you can follow that from the arguments :).
I sent you email.

What Penguin takes for granted is that his 5 minutes comes after years of learning and doing.
To those whose interests and careers go elsewhere and don't know the difference between a drill bit and an end mill, it's simply not familiar ground.
I'm thinking a Seadog might know things any Penguin would find useful.
but the point is that a manufacturer with access to CNC tooling should make things elegant even if it does not serve any purpose, Industrial design is a big part of making things desirable and pleasing. I know for a fact that a washer does the same job as a plate that follows the contour and has a 1/16" polished bevel on a sand blasted bronze finish. With automated machinery the later may cost an extra buck, but looks sooooo much cooler.
Even an old penguin can learn new tricks ... :)
