Are you saying that a $1600 table in that condition is worth more than a HW-19 IV with a modern Jelco arm? The only value that table has is nostalgic, especially compared to more modern tables.
Follow Ups:
The value of the Garrard is not just "nostalgic" in nature. Some would say that in restored condition its potential performance is far superior to that of the VPI you cite, if value has anything to do with performance. Some, apparently yourself included, would say otherwise, and those persons would tend to devalue the Garrard. Then too, there is "the market". The market for a Garrard 301 is based both on collector value (what's it worth to someone else?) and performance. Even if you don't like idlers, the collector value is undeniable. So, you are asking for a comparison of apples to oranges. If you like idlers, the Garrard is a good one and worth the money because of the collector and market value systems that govern the cost of vintage items.
I have my doubts. More posts would just be beating a dead horse. We should agree to disagree. :)
Did you really just insinuate that a VPI is a great table?
Yes, some but not all.
