That's the normal eBay proxy bidder. Put in a max bid say the first day or two of listing. If you're the first bidder, eBay proxy applies only the amount of your max bid needed to be top bidder, but someone starts bidding against you the eBay auto proxy starts taking from your max bid to stay on top until you're max is outbid. That's a sure to pay a lot. Sniping svcs are perfectly legit. They simply do not place your bid at all until the final seconds, no bid war. You could do the same thing manually: have your max bid figured but don't hit final submit bid button until 5-8 seconds before auction end. PITA. Easier to use snipe service.

With Ebay open in two windows, bidding and refreshing trying to get the last winning bid in. Pulse pounding, etc.
Guess I just don't get out enough.

There ya go. That was me, too. Missed a few & decided to go w/a free bid service. It's worked well for me. Win more than I lose. Good luck.
