Unevenly worn or chipped stylus or grossly improper anti-skate setting. Previous owner probably to blame.

Thanks to all - I didn't realize a work stylus could have caused that kind of noise in just the right channel. That explains it - thanks
Depending on what happened to the stylus, a worn stylus can carver through a groove instead of tracking smoothly.
