Follow Ups:
I don't view digital as some abomination, I just think it requires care just as analog does. But, the world is conditioned to think digital is impervious to error and it's resulted in a lot of damaged recordings.
I'm quite happy with how my analog rig sounds right now (and that's where I've concentrated my tuning energy), so an expert cut of a professional digital recording is okay with me if that's the only option.
Of course, the fewer steps the better but all tape is aging and some day the digital copies will be the only option.

Digital copies of tape can sound awfully good!!! ;-)
