In Reply to: RE: Vinyl Listening On Headphones... posted by AudioSoul on April 15, 2014 at 08:02:57
Mainly I do not like having to take OFF my headphones every 18 to 25 minutes to change sides..
When I am listening via regular speakers it is not an issue. But with headphones having to take them off is one annoyance too many.
Now if I had a high end extension cord? Maybe.. But I do not listen enough via headphones and Lps to justify the cost.
And no, using headphones does not make the Lp noise worse in my opinion. But I am not bothered by that at all anyway.
I seen blissfully able to ignore all the little annoying noises which bother some so much. So I would say if the noisess do not bother you in geberal, then with phones it won't matter. But if the little noises DO annoy you, then headphones WILL just make it all worse.

Do you use ordinary dynamic headphones? Grado makes and excellent extension cable for them. That's what I use so I can sit in my listening chair while my headphones are plugged into my headphone amplifier in my equipment rack. It's not expensive. Check out the link below.
Once I asked Grado to see if they can fit a 15ft cord on my RS1 but they refused. I figured that not having a connector at least would make a less signal loss.
I use my 15-ft Grado cord with HP-1 and RS-2 headphones and there is no degradation of sound whatsoever. I guess I got one of the good cords. ;-)

The Grado extension cord is not too bad, as far as extension cords go. I seem to notice a very slight amount of sonic degradation whenever I've used it (almost negligible), the effect being a subtle masking of details. My RS1i's have been completely re-cabled with 20 feet of Cardas cable. I treasure these headphones, not least because I can walk to anywhere in the room while I'm wearing them.

who prefer bog standard factory supplied cables over fancy ones for my cans.
I needed to re-cable my headphones for use with my balanced drive amp. Not that the stock cables performed badly, but Cardas replacement cables and connectors do seem to be of better quality than the stock cables.
At 6-Bills the should make them sound better! Since I did not pay near that for my Sennheiser HD-555's, I think I will pass.
