Quality of a Audio Technica ATP 12T. I can get one what looks to be in real good condition for $650. I am going to use it on a Garrard 401 project I am entering in to at some point.
Thanks!

Thanks for all the info and I'll move on from it unless it goes for less $$$$$$. I already have a Jelco on a Thorens 124. I wanted to try something different but if the Jelco is the way to go again then I will do it!
then there are plenty of interesting alternatives to the Jelco that are superior to the over-priced AT and possibly also to the Jelco, assuming you are also willing to buy used. IOW, it's not a matter of Jelco or nothing.
I think it's always better to buy a new tonearm. Furthermore, antiskating and cuing are two important features to have. I agree with Cuernavaca 's suggestion of the Jelco SA-750LB , which also includes fluid damping.
Good luck,
John Elison
Nice arm, but they usually sell for quite a bit less. If I had a budget of $650, I would try a Jelco 750L.

Great arm I still use one on the Technics and the performance is fantastic with low compliance cartridges, if you can do without cueing and anti-skate. The problem is the price. I sold my extra for $225. When I bought my mint one it was $250 with a nice after market cable and top end AT head shell. They are quite common and nice examples sell on ebay for under $300.
