I wonder if the "poor mix" on 45 ole isn't the way the original was mixed. Coltrane's sax seems panned hard right (or left) routinely on the stereos.

Dolphy is on the left playing flute and Coltrane on the right playing soprano sax. This is on the first cut which is where the problem is supposed to be on the 45.
Somebody posted here not long ago, said that 45 has almost no left channel on the title cut. I have an mp3 version of Ole and it has good left-right balance all the way through.
I ordered a used Atlantic copy from Amazon a few minutes ago. What the hell.

...and regrettably, I don't have the record my collection! (I know, shameful.) A must have now. I have Africa/Brass, the sessions of which commenced within days of those for ole and arranged by Dolphy. I read Dolphy was on ole but not credited under his own name since he was under contract with Prestige. I didn't know that.
