My youngest sister was born in 1964. While my mom was in the hospital, she struck up a friendship with the woman in the other bed who's husband was an engineer.
And, as it turned out, an audiophile. We had dinner at their house and he used The Sound of Music soundtrack to demo his system for us.
Yes, it was that good. Got my dad interested in components, led directly to my own obsessions of today.
If I were you, I'd keep looking. I'm sure RCA sold millions of copies of that record and sooner or later you'll find one that wasn't played to death on some groove-grinding console stereo.
I've had no problem finding undamaged copies of Frank Sinatra's earliest Capitol LPs. If they're out there, so is your soundtrack.

It was mission impossible for me! I eventually gave up and purchased the MFSL Capitol Box Set, used but excellent!
;)
Never trust an Atom, they Make Up everything!
I've had a harder time finding good copies of Sinatra's early Reprise albums than the Capitols. Those Capitols might have a bit of crackle (even though I cleaned them) but no groove damage at all. Even In the Wee Small Hours on the old gray label with the radical outgroove, perfectly clean and undamaged.
I'm surprised that none of the audiophile reissue companies never picked up The Sound of Music soundtrack.
How often did RCA reissue that record? You might be able to find an undamaged copy on the orange label.
