Hi,
I have found a Micacord 50h that has been maintenanced at a stereo repair shop. He is asking $125.
I currently have a Sansui fr-d25 with a Sumiko Pearl cartridge. It's been doing great...but am toying with the thought of replacing it.
Is the Micacord capable of producing better sound than the fr-d25?
Would the Pearl be an OK match for the Micacord or is it too high in compliance.
My system is a Marantz 2226b and Botston Acoustic A100's
Thanks for your time.

It's not likely you'll find anyone who owns those two specific models and can provide a direct comparison. I have no experience with the Sansui you own, but I do have the Elac Miracord, a $3.95 thrift shop find. My Miracord is in beautiful shape, complete with dustcover. It's a very nice turntable, although I prefer the two Technics direct drives I have in daily use.
As you're probably aware, the Miracord is a four-speed, so having 78 RPM capability is a big plus, at least in my opinion. If you've got the spare cash, I don't think you'd go wrong buying the Miracord that's available.
Thank you for your response.
You are probably right about someone having both models and comparing them.
The sansui is a simple TT...wife got it for $15 at a second hand store.
The tone arm is metal and it has two speeds.
One of the interconnects has a loose connection that I need to fix...but I wonder if getting a TT with RCA outlets rather than the full old school wired in interconnects would make a difference.

Those Miracords are a marvel of German manufacturing, but can have some interesting problems. When all correct, they can sound quite nice, and the idler provides a definite *drive* to the music. So I'm certain it would sound different than your TT, but not sure about "better."
Check & make sure it works on all speeds, that the speed is correct, and that it will work with different size records. I had a 46H and the mechanism needed to be completely cleaned out and selectively re-lubricated before it ran correctly. Also, when the changer is running there's a mechanism to break the connection to avoid noise. Mine was permanently broken and took a while to diagnose why I had no sound.
I'm not a huge fan of Sansui TT's, but I don't know your specific model, so I can't comment on the sound differences.
Hope this helps!

Thank you for your response.
I will definitely check out what you mentioned before buying it...if I do get it.
