First up, EC "Slowhand". The Maggies never sounded this good in the smaller loft apartment.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
on our sonic results, take note of Henry's unbiased observations. Just imagine how good it will end up sounding once he adds some absorption materials.
Good show, rock on!

In my opinion f you have junk for transducers don't expect any room to work magic.
Getting some solid speakers is the first step toward magic. Setting them up in a decent room is like sauce for the Goose.
The Maggies are a great first step.
Kind regards!

You're going to love the concrete floor, Henry! When I had some water damage in the basement at my old place and had to move the system upstairs, I was flabbergasted at how different everything sounded (due to the "softer" flooring). Thanks goodness the insurance company was quick with the check, and I was able to replace the carpeting in short order...
Speaking of which, I assume that you will be laying down some sort of floor covering, correct?
Enjoy! I think you're going to really like this.

Simplify.
But I'm leaving the end where the speakers stand with bare concrete.

Cover that window with heavy curtains. Something like the heavy drapes that are used on a stage. The glass in that window will cause some nasty "beaming" and you will be getting a hard "glare" in some portions of your music.

We don't shush around here!

of Sonex foam that should perfectly fit that window cutout. It does a good job of absorbing frequencies above about 500 Hz.

In a straitjacket. Its that room mode at 499Hz! I can't get rid of it!
499...499...499...god help me!
Maybe you should try that plus some old rags to take care of frequencies below 500Hz. Or maybe you need, dare I say it, curtains?

...I'll have a concrete floor...someday. Sob, sob.
When I was a student I rented a tiny basement apartment and it had maybe the best overall acoustics I've ever had...the system was a different story.
Have fun in the new digs!!
That is very cool Henry concrete is also good for TT isolation. Enjoy your new digs....
I have a similar space with a window behind my left speaker (maggie IIIa) and two more on the left wall. I simply covered the openings with 3/4 inch plywood. Imaging/sound stage improved. ymmv
When I moved them to our family room with a vaulted ceiling and gave them proper power, they really came alive and provided a huge soundstage.
On a solid floor, I'm sure it makes a very noticeable difference.
Enjoy.
Lookin' good!
Glad your are enjoying your new Maggies! I just bought a pair 2 weeks ago(after a 6 week backorder wait). Still breaking them in but am really liking what I am hearing so far. Though I am still waiting for my Sumiko Celebration re tip from Soundsmith . Using my office table which is a Moth Alamo(Rega P2) with a Shure M97 xe cartridge. This combo sounds good but am really missing my Celebration on my Nottingham Interspace.
