This is a good one that is really easy to handle and is only $3.00.
I do it all in the name of music!!!
I've used Stylast, Disc Doctor Stylus Cleaner, a plain brush and water and any number of other stylus cleaning/maintenance regimens over the years. As some others have recommended, I now use and recommend the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser solution as described originally by Doug Deacon. Below is a link to a good summary of this approach. As others have noted, be sure to buy the ORIGINAL version without added detergents.
I just tried the magic eraser per above and my system sounds crazy better... but then again- it could be the rootbeer I'm drinking and Scritti Politti album I'm listening to... lol
Stylast also makes a stylus cleaner, but that is really not a needed product if you use the stylus preservative.
The Stylast comes in a small bottle for about $35.From the link you can see the bottle comes with a separate brush. Some sellers do not provide the brush, so try to find a seller who includes the brush. The little carbon fiber 'toothbrush for diamond tips' is well worth the bother to be certain it is included.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Now one point about using this product. you MUST have a steady enough hand to not worry about snapping off the stylus trying to use the product!!
If you cannot see the stylus well, or have shaking hands, i would say do NOT attempt to use the product.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I just swipe the small carbon fiber pad in the little brush across the stylus from BACK TO FRONT that is a MUST to move it only from BACK to FRONT under the stylus, with just enough upward pressure so the diamond tip is brushed by the tips of the carbon fibers.
After the use of the brush, I then open the bottle of the Stylast, and wiping the excess of fluid off the built in brush tip on the bottle spout top, I just rub the bristles of the built in brush on the tip of the stylus. (all yo need is the built in brush to be damp from the liquid in the bottle..)
Apply the tip of the brush to the end of the stylus shank, and the diamond tip .. Messy is OK. here. You only want the tip of the stylus dampened by the brush, but getting some on the shank of the stylus is no problem.
Thne play one side of an LP.
Repeat for other side.A single bottle will last for thousands of LP plays. I find rather than running out, I toss the bottle after it gets four or so years old
(for others wondering what?? I was emailed by (I believe?) the Op asking how to use Stylast.)

I agree - do not consume caffeine within 12 hours prior to using Stylast.
A few vertical dips in a sugar cube size piece of Magic Eraser, followed by a few gentle back-to-front strokes with the Shure furnished brush do it for my SAS. After a dozen or so sides I use Stylast.
I have always loved Stylast. Regardless of some naysayers..
HI Elizabeth,
I too have used Stylast, as well as Last Record Preservative for many years. From this experience, and the fact that I can examine styli with a purpose designed stylus microscope, I can tell you for sure that Stylast is not a stylus cleaner. Under the microscope you will see a build up that is not eliminated with Stylast. In fact Stylast may be the cause of the buildup. I don't know for sure.
What I do know is the buildup must be periodically removed or your tracking will suffer. And mistracking can damage record grooves. So, this is not an insignificant issue.
Isopropyl alcohol is very effective but I use Last Stylus Cleaner which I think is even better. I call this deep cleaning. After deep cleaning, the stylus will appear squeaky clean under the microscope. This is what you want for top stylus performance. I deep clean about every 20 records or so which keeps everything in good shape.
Sparky
magic eraser works the best though followed by either the discwasher sc2 or the stylast brush.

I use a little brush that came with my Shure V15 cartridge, and I also use the Onzow Zerodust every 8-10 plays. The Magic Eraser also works well. Be careful with stylus cleaning fluid...I lost a stylus a few years ago by over-using fluid (dissolved the glue holding the stylus to the cantilever). Now I just use dry methods!
To keep your stylus clean, make sure your records are clean by at least using a good brush before playing each time, and getting a good wet cleaner device or better, a wet vac.
Mobile Fidelity LP#9 (previously Records Research Labs LP#9) and Magic Eraser. Careful not to snag the stylus with the ME...just "dip" the stylus in, don't drag it across!Keeps the diamond sparking clean. Clean records help alot also...

Also have a stylus brush for lint.

I use the Diskeeper SC-5 Stylus Cleaner from Sleeve City. Also, if you get that also check and see if you need any inner/outer sleeves......that's what they are known for.

Magic Eraser is one very cheap and effective cleaning options. Loads of threads on this one. BE SURE to get the White Magic Eraser. The blue has chemicals added that you don't want to touch your stylus.
I use the Magic Eraser with the liquid LAST cleaner. Brush it with the LAST liquid every few days or so. Magic Eraser between most sides of a record.
...along with a drop of my home made recording cleaning solution. I don't believe the brush is available new anywhere but I've seen them on eBay. Scroll down the enclosed link to the $12.00 stylus cleaning kit. That brush looks like it would be as effective as the Disc Washer.
"Last" brush

Thanks for all the information much appreciated.
I clean my lps with disc doctor fluid and have the special brush that goes with it.
Then I have the new inner and outer sleeves.
After that I have nice brush for each listening session.
But the stylus I have always been affaid of damaging the needle.
I have a full bottle of Last Stylast treatment has # 5 on it.
Looks to be a soft brush in the bottle I just want to learn and do no damage to the cart.
There is also a heavy stick looking pc with a hard circular cleaner?
Not sure how or what it is used for.
I am being honest so I dont damage my cart. Like I said I am not affaid to show my ignorance better to do that and learn from you guys with experience then to ruin my set up. What is that dark brown hard brush with a hard circular thing on the end and how do I use it and what is its purpose?
More questions to come better safe then sorry.
Thanks for all the info already
...place a drop of the cleaning fluid on the brush and gently stroke the stylus BACK TO FRONT ONLY! ("Back" being the arm base). Two or three passes should be adequate.
I use the Discwasher cleaning brush also, and it works great. I tried the "magic eraser", but found out it's ineffective after checking the stylus with my stereo microscope.
