Hi Waxxy,
I love the picture of the old record store. Have you any background on it? Are some of the players Edison Diamond disc players? The one on the right in the foreground looks to have a vertical sound box.
Thanks,
Phil
Sorry Phil,
It's just an image I've 'borrowed' from another site on the net...no details.
Wish I was of more help...

Debbie knows what's up! That Punky Kiss Girls LP is rare, rare, RARE!
But I have this desperate need to hear that album.
because it looks awesome?
I'm not sure but I think those are Edison machines.

Garden variety (for the day) Victrolas. I have one.
buy it new?
Actually, my wife bought it for me for our 25th anniversary. I forget when that was.
Well, like I said I'm not sure but on the machine in the foreground I see the arm but the sound box is not visible in the picture. I think if it were a sound box for vertical cut records it would extend above the arm. Also the record sleeves on the shelves look a bit Edisonesque to me.

Shellac of North America, anyway.
Leave your hi-fi and go see these guys play live.
The first punk rock show I ever went to was Fugazi/Shellac/Make-Up in 1995. I knew Fugazi, but I'd never heard Shellac, and boy was I in for a surprise. Todd's drumming especially just freaked me out in a really good way.
Had to look these guys up but I like this note in the wiki entry for "Excellent Italian Greyhound":
"The band encourages listeners to purchase the vinyl to hear the record as it was intended."
The guy who plays guitar and does most of the singing is Steve Albini, a pretty well-respected recording engineer who's done tons and tons of indie stuff and a pretty good handful of bigger names(Nirvana's In Utero, among others). The bass player Bob Weston runs Chicago Mastering. I don't know what else the drummer does, but if you saw him play, you'd probably say drumming is plenty.
I always love these posts, Waxxy, but these three are absolutely some of my favorites so far! Thanks for sharing.
