Dear All,Happy New Year! I bought a pair of Ampex 6973 mono blocs several years ago after reading about them over Arthur Salvatore's High End audio website. Recently I hire my technician to upgrade them to more presentable chassis and he found out that one of the output tranny is leaking HT. I am posting this message hoping that someone may have a spare or leftover OPT for sale. Please let me know if you do. The OPT was made by Triad as shown in the picture.

Hi Hans,
This thread is a bit old, but if your still looking, I have a pair of Ampex 6973 output transformers that I'm willing to part with.
Dan
Pal brought up excellent suggestions especially with Heyboer.
I would like you try something first.Your tech told you it's leaking HT, but unless it leaks primary to secondary, you can maybe repair this transformer from the leakage to the case if that's what he meant.Judging from the corrosion on the core, you need to take off the metal end caps and clean all those rust particles that may have worked their way inside.Clean them out and then put a drop of silicone on each wire connection where it hooks up inside the transformer. Then, you need to change the cardboard insulators inside the end caps and that many tines solves the DC leakage problem. If your lead in wires aren't exposed hooking to the wires inside the transformer, you don't need to silicone them.
It's worth trying to fix this transformer because it matches your other one.

Thanks very much for the precious advice, Mike. The other day I accidentally touched the speaker lead connected to this faulty trafo and got a shock. Does that mean the primary is leaking into the secondary?
You have several choices:
1. Search epay until the correct transformer comes along.
2. buy another Ampex 6973
3. buy a pair of high quality output transformers suitable for the 6BQ5 e.g., about 8k ohms primary impedance
4 have Heyboer Transformers rewind the bad transformer
Thanks for your suggestion, Palustris. Options 1 and 2 have been practiced with not much luck so far. Options 3 and 4 are being considered at the moment. My present preference is to find an exact replacement or repair the faulty one. Since Mike brought up a possible solution, I might try that first.
