I haven't posted because I'm trying to recoup fast and it's been uncomfortable to sit in a chair.I had to replace a metal bracket on my parent's garage door and I missed the last step and lost my balance and went right down on my behind hard on the cement.I have no fractures but I have a compressed lower disc but it wasn't from that fall.T
Anyway,I'm taking motrin and laxatives and it has been 10 days and I'm getting some relief but I'm still icing my back and sides..I hope it heals quicker because my lower back hurts and my right front.

Jeez... sorry to hear that! Hope you feel better soon. I know how much that hurts. I took a fall onto my tailbone when I was 9. I'm 49 and I still remember the moment like when Elvis died.
A buddy of mine did that coming down from a roof on an extension ladder. But he missed about 10 feet up and did a double back flip to the bushes below. It scored a 1 out of 10, landing on his hip.
Being in his late 50s and doing construction work all his life, that was the straw that broke the hip's back. So, he got a new one.The good new is that the new one is great, the bad, the other one, not so much.
Take care of yourself, Mike.

Thanks Rod
I'm starting to heal a bit..It would have been better to fall in a bush as opposed to the cement floor.

Oh my, deja vu. Not so much the ladder part, but when I was a kid in elementary school, the boy behind me in lunch line reached under my arms, wrapped me in a bear hug, & picked me up as he leaned back. My legs went up, he let go & I landed on my tail bone with all my weight on that hard cafeteria tile. All sense of pride was gone as I cried like a baby. One of the most painful things ever in my 67 yrs, so I can relate brother! I think I was fortunate not to have sustained any permanent damage, but it sure hurt like he!! for a long time. Wishing you a (more comfortable) recovery in time to enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving my friend.
Everyone thinks I'm strange except my friends deep inside the earth
But will you listen? Hell no! Must be the wolverine in you.
I recall our conversation. Sorry to hear that it is still bothering you so much. I have slipped on ladders but aways managed to push away and land of my feet. Leaders can be very dangerous. I hope you get well soon Mike!
P.S. I forgot to mention that I have 2 Scott 222D's, a Scott tube tuner and a Lafayette tube receiver. The Lafayette was working but has picked up a hum. I think a capacitor or capacitors have given up in the power supply. It is due for a rebuild. The tuner was strong when I had it up and running.

Yeah, sounds like something is out in your back. Try ice and heat along with minor/light stretching. I have a no disc S1 L5 issue, so I know this pain very well. Also if you can without hurting yourself more, lay on your back with your legs elevated up on a chair like in a sitting position. That will help relax the muscles in the lower back that maybe spasming. Do that for 15-20 min. A few times through out the day, that should help.
Hope you feel better!
Don't stretch until you've ruled out injury. But all the rest is great advice.
If it's a disc there are the McKenzie exercises for injured and herniated lower discs. They must be taught by a therapist to do them right as to softly push the disc back in place (and off that nerve!).
From the Dr. Before you do the stretches.
get well soon
Look at the bright side-if it snows you don't have to shovel!!!!
Heal quickly my friend.

Duane in Clearwater
Just be grateful it was the last step before the bottom, rather than the last step before the top!
Heal quickly, Mikey, and damn it man, be careful!
Thanks Tod
This mean I won't be riding the 73 Electra Glide anytime soon.
"For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong" H. L. Mencken
A 1973 Electra Glide suspension is definitely not conducive to tail-bone healing, Mícheál!
Yeah, but it will shake those kidney stones loose!
Riding my Shovel isn't what I'd call comfortable, especially since I've gone to a solo seat, a small hard pad, barely an inch thick. But it's such a visceral experience that it never fails to put a smile on my face.
I do need to fix the electric start though. My old knee ain't what it used to be for kicking it over on a cold morning.
Ever get a kick back kick starting that? I did once on my Triumph. Luckily I was young and full of beer. Riding on Long Island NY was very bad for your health. I think about riding again but those days still give me a cold chill and nightmares.
But my motor was built for longevity rather than high compression.
It actually starts quite easily once it's warmed up, usually the first or second kick. The oddest time was at a gas station a few years ago, right after I had filled up. I positioned the kicker, and put the slightest amount of pressure on the peddle. I was about to kick it through when it went down on its own, and fired right up. Apparently the stroke it was on left it in the perfect position to start by simply applying a bit of pressure to the kicker.
Regarding the cold chills, I hear you. And its gotten worse, what with every other car driver having their damn face planted in their cell phone, rather than their eyes on the road. But I've been riding for forty-two years, and I'd rather die doing something I love, rather than longing for it if I gave it up.
I guess that sticker about not using the top as a step is true.
There was a statistic published about 18 months ago that the number one leading cause of admissions to the Emergency Departments of Australian hospitals was falls from ladders.
I'd rather climb onto a ladder in a lady's stocking myself.
sorry to hear that.
It really is amazing how one teeny misstep can cause so much pain and damage.
Heal up soon!

I'm so sorry to hear about your fall. I've fallen off ladders but not on my butt bone. However I would switch that ice to heat to stop and spasms. The motrin in knocking down the swelling but be careful because motrin does effect the kidneys. With a history of stones you don't need that. Take as little as possible or only as needed.
If you don't have any leg pain you didn't herniate any discs. However if you still have sharp pain in two weeks get a MRI. Hair line fractures of the pelvis and hip start to show up after 10 days or more on Xray.
For now avoid anything painful and buy yourself a donut pillow to sit on. Don't use narcotics and go do something around the house. Like I would!!!
Best of luck
charles
PS the injury will heal in about two weeks but your pride will take a little longer
Charlie
I have some leg pain but very little.I do have a bit of rib pain up front when i first get up and it's right above my stomach. Most of my pain is lower back on the right when I stretch or cough.I've been icing it and sitting on a donut pillow..I was talking to a Dr of physical therapy this morning and she told me to take hot baths and then stretch those muscles by bringing your knees up to your chest and holding it as long as I can.

I wish you fast healing and a full recovery. I did that recently when trying to change out some speaker wire on top of a cabinet.
Luckily, there was a carpet on the laminate floor.
Whoa! I hope you recover ok. Sounds quite painful.
I hope that you will be much better by Thanksgiving.
Ouch. Just reading your post makes me hurt. I hope that you feel better soon.

I have the worst year ever.First the kidney stones which are now gone but with the back pain it feels like they are back..I want to know if anyone else ever fell on their fanny hard on the cement and how long does it take to heal?
"For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong" H. L. Mencken
If you are still sore that long after the fall you may have a fracture of your sacrum or coccyx. These are not easily seen on plain xrays and may require an MRI or CAT scan. It may not make any difference in your treatment but at least you would have a better ideas as to how long your recovery might be.
Thanks for that information.
